WHY MY WATER PRESSURE IS SLOW?

There are many reasons why we could start to get less and less water pressure. Here are some of the reasons:
  1. Probably we have a water leak. How could I check if there is a water leak? Easy, if every faucet is off your water meter triangle spin should be still. If it is spinning around something is on or you have a leak. If you shut the house water valve off and is still spinning around then your leak is between the water meter and the shut-off valve (90% of this cases there is water in the yard). The worse case scenario is a leak under the slab.(Expensive and messy)
  2. Do you have a water softener or water filtration system in good condition or less than 8 years old? Try to bypass the system to check if the pressure goes back normal.
  3. Is just a faucet? Did you try to replace the faucet aerator? Sometimes it has scale build up and you have to replace it or clean it.
  4. Do you think your toilets work properly? Check for toilets running.
  5. Is the main shut off valve in good condition? Sometimes a worn out valve could reduce the water pressure. Be careful playing with that valve. It is expensive to replace and even more if the access to that valve is difficult.
  6. Do you have a water pressure reduce valve? Check if somebody manipulates that or it is working properly.
  7. Is the water meter valve in good condition? Many houses do not have the main shut off valve and people think water meter valve is the house valve and this is a mistake. Turning on and off this valve could get it stuck or broke.
  8. Is the cold water pressure ok but there is low pressure in the hot water? Then we have to check the water heater or if there is a leak in any hot water pipe.
Advise for travelers, professionals,  or business person: If you are not at home because of your profession, you should have a water detector system. This allows you to shut the water off just in case an accident happens when the water area sensor turns on or it is activated by a water leak.
